Pittsburgh’s public schools graded

Local ratings

Pittsburgh’s Future is an organization dedicated to improving Southwestern Pennsylvania.  Their  website contains information about the economy and other local issues.

Also of interest is the information they have compiled regarding local public school proficiency.  The site has information regarding reading and mathematics grades.  Download the information for grade school and high school for the year 2011.

It’s disappointing and actually frightening to see how many schools fall into the D, E, and F grades range.  Some may not be a surprise, but that does not make it acceptable. Remember to check out the cyber school ratings, also.  They show seriously low scores.  Their argument is that they enroll a high percentage of disadvantaged students, such as students who have failed in other more traditional education environments.

Some of these schools have been operating for ten years or more.  Is there really no way for them to show any improvement in their proficiency ratings?

State’s rating

Another item of interest is the Nation’s Report Card at the National Assessment of Educational Progress.  View Pennsylvania’s grades and compare to the national average.  While Pennsylvania’s rates are higher than the nation’s, if you look at the actual numbers, you will notice that the scores are not necessarily outstanding or even good.  Find out by following the link below:
