Queen Joan

Virtuous, or Villainous?

History & Science Enrichment Program

Previously, we learned about that monstrous monarch, King Henry VIII of England, he of the many wives. Now learn about the scandals and schemes of his successors.

Queen Elizabeth I of England has been described as fragile and fierce, majestic and manipulative, vain and veined. How did this daughter of Henry VIII go from disowned, disinherited, and imprisoned to becoming Gloriana, the most regal ruling royal of all?

How did someone with the “… body of a weak, feeble woman…”  prove to have “…the heart and stomach of a king,…” and defeat the great Spanish fleet known as the Armada?

Tudor sword playThis era had it all: tolerance and tyranny. Pirates, pox, and poison dresses. Oh, and Shakespeare!

    • Who was betrayed by their beloved? (Just about everybody!)
    • Was Dudley’s wife’s death a mishap or murder?
    • Discover the treachery and treason that led to a queen cousin’s conspiracy.
    • Was Mary a murdering mermaid?

While the era is considered a golden age of reformation and renaissance, there was also a darker side of conquest and colonization.
